DMR Radio Application and Solution
September 20, 2018

Digital mobile radio (DMR) is an open digital mobile radio standard defined in the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) Standard TS 102 361 parts 1–4[1] and used in commercial products around the world.  The DMR radio is a communication tool that digitizes the audio signal with the manner of digital encoding and modulation and do optimization through DSP digital signal processor. It is designed with three tiers: DMR tiers I and II published in 2005, and DMR III published in 2012.

  • Tier 1 is a license free digital radio system (PMR446, max RF power: 0.5W)
  • DMR Tier II covers licensed conventional radio systems, mobiles and hand portables operating in frequency bands from 66–960 MHz. Most of the DMR Tier II radios in the market operate in frequency UHF400-520MHz or VHF136-174MHz like CTET-DM300 and mobile radio CTET-DMM80.
  • Tier III is the trunked version that supports voice and short messaging handling (up to 288bits one message.) It also supports packet data service in a variety of formats, including support for IPv4and IPv6.

There are three common networking applications for the DMR radio: digital basic mode through simplex talk around, IP multi-site connection and trunking system. Hytera PDT and Motorola Tetra work based on the DMR trunking application. So how does dmr turnking work? People may not be patient and professional enough to read the professional articles of these manufacturers. Before we get to know the trunking system, we shall get a basic idea of how the conventional radio works.

Suppose there are three dedicated channels—channel one might be only for police, channel two for fire control and channel three for administration department. The result for many organizations is that some channels become crowded while others go unused. Suppose you are a police officer wanting to make a call, if your channel is busy then you will need to wait your turn, even if the other two channels are open. Trunking resolves this problem.

With trunking system, all channels are available to all users. If you want to make a call, the radio network will automatically and dynamically assign your call to the next available channel. In many cases, there will be no wait time, but even if you do need to wait, it will last a very short time.

Currently the DMR radios have been applied in many industries like hotel, logistics, property , security, government administration and so on. Normally we will offer a complete solution as per the detailed requirements of the client. Take for example, one property company wants to adopt the DMR trunking system on normal communication. The application should be covered in areas of security surveillance system: security box, parking lot and management office, cleaning scheduling and parking management dispatching. The solution of DMR repeater CTET-R60, DMR handheld radios CTET-DM200, CTET-DM300 and CTET-DM310 and DMR mobile radios CTET-DMM80 plus Power splitter, indoor antenna and outdoor omni-directional high gain fiber glass antenna can realize full communication coverage of Residential, underground and the surrounding areas.
